British Shorthair

The brit is among the biggest of the shorthair cats.

It's a cobby cat with a leg in each corner. It has a muscular body and a short crisp coat.
The head should be round and the ears rounded and far apart.

Shortly said, the Brit has to be round.

The eyes should be round and the colour has to be yellow/orange, at least for the full coloured - the silvers should have green eyes, even though orange is allowed.

The Brit, also exists, in a long haired variation. In a wide range of colour and designs. The full coloured (eg. blue) tortie and bicolour, silver and golden. They can have tabby markings, with or without silver.

The coat on a silver brit is soft, and has a tendensy to be a bit too long on the back.
Normaly the silvercats are smaller than the solid colored cats.

Beeing so big and heavy, the brit preferes to stay on the ground. If they want to go up, they prefer dooing it step by step. It's a quiet and calm cat. They like your compagny, but they don't cling. Quite often the owner has to go to the cat, not the other way around!

With their temperament, the brits are very good as a family cat. They normaly go very well along with kids, dogs and other cats.
Unlike most other races, it's the brit who chooses who is part of the family.

If you choose a british shorthair kitten, please remember they take 3-4 years to grow up. So be patient !

The british shorthair is often spoken of, as "the strong and silent man" in the cats world.
