| Why do we have silvertabbys...? Well....it's just our good fortune.
We got our first cat back in 1990, he was a black smoke percian. (called Ib). Later we gave him a playmate, she wasa shaded silver brit, called Toesen. And that was it, we had found our future cats. And the silver tabbys have become our passion! Silver
The hair of a silver cat are two coulered. Each hair has no colour at the base, this makes the hair look white and with a coloured top.
Shell (Chincilla): The coloured part is about 1/8 of the length of the hair.
Shaded: The coloured part is about 1/3 of the length of the hair.
Smoke: The hair is almost coloured from top to base. At the base it has a little bit of white.
The nose and the paws is coloured acording to the coat colour. The eyes on tipped and shaded cats should be green. The smoke cats has orange eyes. Cats with tabby markings can have green or orange eyes. The green eyes are prefered.
A golden cat is similair to a silver cat. The Tabby markings
Every cat has the tabby gene, in some it shows more clearly than in others. All cat's who inherits an agouti gene (A)from at least one of the parents, will have markings in the coat.Even on full coloured cat's you can see the tabby markings. The tabby markings are dominant.
Agouti means the yellow or white hair has coloured bands.(Yellow hais is often mentioned as non-silver, while silverwhite is mentioned as silver !)
The tabbymarkings should be as clear as possible. No agouti hair in the markings/ the dark. The pads with whiskars should be spotted, and the eyes should have the darkest colour closest to the eye, and the brigther next to. The ears should be surrounded by the brightest colour, and have a thombmark. The Head is dominated by a "M" on the forehead and with a dark line from the corner of the eye and 2 or 3 lines on the chins. The back of the head has tiny lines witch ends up in a "butterfly" on the shoulders, From here they continue as 3 dark stripes all the way to the tail. The sides are dominated by broad stripes cirkeling around a "buls eye" in the middle. The markings should be as symetric as possible. On the chest should be 2 unbroken neclaces and on the stomac, it should be spotted. The legs has several identical ringes. The pads is of the darkest colour. The tail also has "rings" and of the end et should be rounded and coloured.
The are other variations of tabby:
Makrel (tigeret): Like blotched , but without "butterfly" and "bulls eye". The markings are thin parallel lines going from the back down to the belly. The contrast should be clear.
Spottet: Like blotched, just without "butterfly" and "bulls eye". The markings should be uniform round dots all over the body. And with a bright contrast. Lines down the back are accepted. two brocken neclaces.
Ticked: The markings are best seen on the head, legs and tail. The rest of the body is ticked. (Each hair has several dark bands).
